M4 of the 14th Armored Division France February 1945

14-AD14th Armored Division. The mixture of insignia and distinctive colors of several arms incorporated in the Armored Force symbolize integrity and esprit. It is an interlocked ornament, found in Nordic monuments, composed of three torques: red for Artillery; blue for Infantry; and yellow for Cavalry. The symbols represent the characteristics of Armored Divisions: the tank track, mobility, and armor protection; the cannon, fire power; and the red bolt of lightning, shock action.

The 14th Armored Division was activated on November 15, 1942, at Camp Chaffee (Arkansas) and moved on November 17, 1943, to the Second Army #4 Tennessee Maneuvers. Transferred to Camp Campbell (Kentucky) on January 19, 1944, the 14-AD staged at Camp Shanks (New York) on October 6, 1944, until departed the New York (POE) on October 14, arrived in France October 30, and entered Germany on March 19, 1945. When the war was over in Europa, the Division was sent back home and arrived at the Hampton Roads (POE) on September 16, 1945, and was inactivated at Camp Patrick Henry (Virginia) the same day.
